Practicing family doctor and Ireland’s leading medical education entrepreneur. As a leading global advocate for online medical education, he passionately believes in the use of latest innovative technologies, tools and educational approaches to support doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals in busy clinical work to build new knowledge, skills and competencies to improve patient care while remaining in clinical practice. As CEO and Founder of iheed the leading specialist medical online programme management company in Europe, Middle East and Asia he has led the creation of a suite of transformative postgraduate University Diploma, Masters, Residency and Fellowship programmes for over 300,000 healthcare professionals in over 50 countries in partnership with worlds leading Medical Universities. Building a committed and passionate team of technologists, educationalists, UX designers, instructional designers, content creators and a rich global faculty of doctors and healthcare professionals to teach on these programmes iheed under Tom’s leadership have delivered industry leading educational engagement and educational success metrics for their students. He has successfully built and worked with a wide global network of Health Ministries, Medical Regulators, Medical Universities, healthcare providers and global donor organisations to develop and roll out these programmes where needed most. He has contributed significantly with leading academic research partners to the publication of research data supporting the improved impact on patient care of these online education approaches. He is a regular contributor and speaker at UN, WHO, WONCA and other leading global events. Tom has also chaired a number of large-scale donor-funded international public-private partnerships in health worker education. He is presently a member of WHO Eastern Mediterranean Expert Consultation Group on Family Medicine. Tom was appointed by the Irish Health Minister to the Irish Health Research Board and has also held advisory positions on the Irish National Health Innovation Hub and with the Irish College Of General Practitioners. Tom supports the delivery of inhouse family medicine services to the staff of Google in their EMEA headquarters in Dublin.
